The Cascade Range is a line of fire and ice, a chain of glacier-clad volcanoes rising above dense evergreen forest. These peaks Rainier, Hood, Shasta, and their siblings are the water towers of the Northwest, storing winter snow and releasing it through the dry summer to feed rivers, farms, and cities. Their forests climb from lowland rainforest to alpine meadow in the space of a few thousand feet.

In a landscape shaped by volcanoes and ice, they work on the timescale the mountains themselves keep.
