Mid-Atlantic Coast Nature Nonprofits

The Mid-Atlantic coast is a soft, shifting edge of barrier islands, bays, and estuaries, where the land trades places with the sea a little more each year. Its beaches and marshes are a crucial waystation on the Atlantic Flyway, and Delaware Bay hosts one of the planet’s great wildlife spectacles: horseshoe crabs spawning by the million, and the shorebirds that fly from South America to feast on their eggs.

The organizations here protect those beaches and marshes, defend the migratory birds that depend on them, and help low-lying communities face rising seas with living shorelines rather than seawalls. Theirs is the patient work of holding a coastline that will not hold still.
