Greater Yellowstone is the largest nearly intact temperate ecosystem left on the planet, a vast highland of geysers, forests, and sagebrush valleys where the full assembly of native wildlife grizzly and wolf, bison and elk, still plays out its ancient dramas. This is the last place in the lower forty-eight where great herds still make long seasonal migrations across the land, following the green wave of spring up the mountains.
The organizations here protect those migration corridors, defend the wildlife that ranges far beyond park boundaries, and steward the private ranchlands and public wildlands that together make the ecosystem whole. Their work rests on the understanding that a park is not enough that wildness needs room to move.
