The Land Institute
The modern scale of annual agriculture threatens to collapse the cultural and natural systems upon which life on this planet depends. But what if there was a solution that could help feed humanity and grow crops in a just, equitable way that restores the soil, protects water, and addresses climate change? The Land Institute is developing a suite of deeply rooted perennial grain crops—including Kernza®, sorghum, wheat, rice, oilseeds, and legumes—that replenish soil organic matter, sequester carbon, and protect soil from eroding into waterways. And we’re researching ways to grow them in diverse cropping systems that will deliver even more ecological benefits. This bold vision of perennial grains provides hope, rooted in science, to create a truly regenerative food future. .
