Open Mountains Project
Open Mountains Project was founded in 2016 by a group of young women in a small mountain town, with the goal of removing barriers to access to the mountain environment for vulnerable people. Each of our programs fosters empathy, environmental stewardship, and inclusive mountain culture. We offer a small suggested course fee, with a free option for whoever requires it. We use a bullying-prevention approach to groups, and in all of our courses, we accept 50% 'status quo' youth and 50% 'vulnerable youth' (identity-based, psychological, socio-economic, and neurodiverse vulnerabilities). The goal is to forge new connections across social barriers, and to foster a healthy and diverse sense of team within the mountain environment. As humans, we will fight to save the things we feel connected to. Part of our intent is to foster positive connections with the mountain environment, and with one another, for a sustainable future for our fragile ecosystems, thriving together in an inclusive mountain culture.
