Blue Sky Center
No matter where you live in America, you should have the opportunity to thrive. At Blue Sky, we are providing access to opportunity in our rural communities by: creating and preserving quality jobs, providing job training and educational programs, bridging access to resource providers, and building capacity and leadership among our most marginalized. The Cuyama Valley is defined by its high desert geography, a land area of 300 square miles bounded on all sides by public land. We face a paradox of isolation and limited resources amid abundant natural beauty and land-based opportunity. While a major provider of local jobs, large-scale farming poses the greatest threat to Cuyama’s sustainability through depletion of critically overdrafted groundwater (our only source of water). Working against neglect, extraction, and constraints, Blue Sky Center’s asset-based community development approach supports sustainable diversification and expansion of economic opportunity in alignment with Cuyama’s existing values and attributes. Blue Sky Center’s mission is to strengthen our rural communities within the Cuyama Valley by supporting entrepreneurs and building our regional creative.
