Global Canopy

Global Canopy is an innovative environmental organisation that works with companies, financial institutions, governments and civil society worldwide to identify and address the systemic market forces destroying the natural world. Two-thirds of tropical deforestation, for instance, is driven by agricultural expansion for a handful of commodities, like soy, palm oil, beef and timber. These end up in half the packaged products in UK supermarkets. They are in our furniture and our footwear, our investments and our pensions. Last year’s dramatic Amazon fires have brought the issue home like never before, outside pressure - the pressure of global markets - is vital if these forests are to survive. This is where Global Canopy comes in. Operating since 2001, we are a UK charity, with a team of 25 staff based in Oxford, with smaller teams based in Brazil and Indonesia. We also have established and long-standing partnerships with many of the leading organisations operating in the environmental protection space worldwide including the UNEP Finance Initiative, Stockholm Environmental Institute, and WWF.
