Amazon Conservation Team

The Amazon Conservation Team (ACT) utilizes a biocultural conservation model to support and protect the wellbeing of tropical forests in Amazonia and the indigenous and local peoples who call it home. Indigenous peoples represent only 5% of the world's population, yet manage or hold tenure over 25% of the world's surface and protect 80% of the planet's remaining terrestrial biodiversity. We know that the fate of the tropical forests of Amazonia and the fate of its indigenous and local peoples are interconnected. Through our holistic approach to conservation over the last 25 years, ACT has directly supported: the establishment of 193,000 acres of national parklands, the constitution and expansion of 1.8 million acres of indigenous reserves, the improved management of 5.8 million acres of tropical forest, and the mapping of 76 million acres of territories and protected areas in Amazonia.
