Vida Verde Nature Education

Vida Verde promotes educational equity by providing FREE overnight environmental learning experiences for students who don’t otherwise get the opportunity. Since 2001, we have served over 12,5 00 fourth through sixth grade students from low-income, Bay Area schools with our core program—a three-day, two-night camping trip (taken as a class during the school year) that is specifically designed to positively and powerfully impact students’ connection to the outdoors, academics, and social and emotional learning. In 2020, we added our Teen & Family Services, which include the Summer Leadership Project (SLP), a summer camp for teens, as well as monthly family hikes, and other gatherings for our wider community. We serve students from throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. 99% of the students are youth of color, over 85% qualify for free/reduced-price lunch programs in their schools, and none of them would otherwise get the chance to participate in outdoor education programs. We continue to serve the same communities during Covid-19 free of cost with modified programming. .
