The Global FoodBanking Network
Founded in 2006, GFN represents the most geographically diverse network of food banks in the world, comprised of 940 community-based food banks in 44 nations on six continents. GFN food banks largely serve populations in emerging marketsor developing economies where food insecurity prevalence is high and persistent —working closest to where the need is greatest. As a result, food banks serve as an essential lifeline to millions of vulnerable people at risk of hunger and, through food bank activity, aid in the resilience of food systems and community development while strengthening civil society. Food banks, operating at the nexus of Sustainable Development Goals(SDG)2 and SDGTarget12.3, are locally-based building blocks to these vitally important global goals, while simultaneously advancing other SDGs in their communities: Poverty, Health, Education, Gender Equity, and Climate Protection. The world produces enough food to feed all people, but access to adequate, healthy food is out of reach for millions. The number of people affected by severe food insecurity, ameasure that approxim.
