Sierra Club Inspiring Connections Outdoors, Sacramento (Sacramento ICO)
Sacramento Inspiring Connections Outdoors (ICO) is an all-volunteer program that empowers youth from communities with limited access to connect to the outdoors, for the benefit of both. We create opportunities for personal growth and development by linking participants from different cultures, foster respect of self and others, and provide participants with outdoor skills training and leadership opportunities. We operate year-round. In summer we take kids rafting, paddle-boarding, backpacking, and camping. In winter we take them for snowshoe hikes and snow play. We partner with local organizations and design each outing to be age- and skill-appropriate for each group of kids. We are organizationally-sponsored by the Sierra Club but we are 100% self-funded through donations of funds, gear, and supplies.
