Patagonia Area Resource Alliance

PARA is a grassroots, community-driven nonprofit dedicated to the preservation and protection of local mountains, wildlife, and watersheds in and around Patagonia, Arizona. Founded in 2011 by six Patagonia locals, we are a citizen watchdog organization that monitors the activities of mining companies and local government agencies to ensure any actions taken in Patagonia ultimately benefit our public lands, water, wildlife, and wellbeing. The areas surrounding Patagonia, Arizona have a rich cultural heritage that includes ranching, farming, and ecotourism. The town of Patagonia supports a diverse arts community as well. PARA supports sustainable development that maintains or enhances economic opportunities and community health while protecting our environment and biological wealth. PARA aims to prevent the environmental degradation that comes with 21st century industrialized mining. We promote restoration efforts that maintain and preserve our public lands, our drinking water, the air we breathe, and the richness of our local flora and fauna. A thriving community, both now and in the future, depends fully on our ability to generate and maintain Patagonia’s economic and environmen.
