Jeju Solidarity for Participatory Self-government & Environmental Preservation (JS)

Jeju Solidarity for Participatory Self-government & Environmental Preservation(JS) is a non-governmental organization based in Jeju Island, South Korea. JS was launched in 1991 as a people’s movement against the enactment of the Special Law on the Development of Jeju Island, which focused on reckless development for the economic benefit of certain groups. Since then, JS has focused on participatory governance, environmental preservation, and improvement of people’s livelihood and expanded its area of expertise on people’s participation. As of 13 March 2021, we have 800 individual members who join our cause and support our work by paying a monthly membership fee so that we can work independently without government subsidies. .
