Fondazione Banco Alimentare Onlus

Established in 1989 in Milan, Fondazione Banco Alimentare Onlus (FBAO) is a legal entity that coordinates and guides Banco Alimentare (BA), composed of 21 regional Food Bank Organizations (OBA). Its primary purpose is to recover the surpluses generated along the agri-food chain and the redistribution of the latter to charitable structures. Its capillarity, which is also recognised by companies, allows it to cover the entire country and to respond concretely where there is a need. Moreover, FBAO plays the role of intermediary between the various stages of the agro-food chain, while the 21 OBA are in contact with the charities that reach the needy. FBAO is therefore subsidiary to the facilities, especially in the current context where the number of people in absolute poverty has reached 6.5 million. Since its inception, FBAO has contributed to give concrete form to a model of circular and subsidiary economy that brings several benefits to the whole community: in fact, the activity of recovery and distribution of food has not only a social impact in ensuring access to food to the most vulnerable ones, but also an economic and environmental impact, reducing food waste and consequently.
