Fashion Takes Action

Since 2007, FTA has worked with more than 2000 global apparel businesses and entrepreneurs, participated in over 300 events, collaborated with academics, NGOs and various industry stakeholders, and empowered over 30,000 students. We are serious about circularity in fashion - having convened the first multi-stakeholder group to address textile waste diversion and reuse/recycling from 2017-2019. This led us to conduct Canada's first textile recycling feasibility study, commissioned by Environment & Climate Change Canada, and our report - now published on our website - which includes more than 20 recommendations to our federal government. We are currently conducting a mechanical recycling pilot to identify and develop new end products and end markets. We realize that perfection doesn’t exist. There are still so many questions and not enough answers; and there are many ways for fashion businesses to become sustainable. Our goal is to first identify the barriers to sustainable that exist, and then present the industry with fair and accurate information, as well as build capacity within the entire fashion system to make responsible choices and take action where possible.
