EARTH University Foundation

Founded in Costa Rica in 1990 through a partnership among the Costa Rican government, USAID, and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, EARTH University develops ethical leaders and entrepreneurs who are transforming agriculture, food systems, and environmental sustainability across the Global South. Created specifically to address the challenges facing rural communities in the tropics, EARTH combines academic excellence with hands-on learning, leadership development, entrepreneurship, and a deep commitment to environmental stewardship. Students gain practical experience through coursework, field-based learning, community engagement, and real-world business ventures, preparing them to create meaningful change in their home communities. Today, EARTH’s impact extends far beyond its campus. More than 3,000 alumni from over 70 countries are working as entrepreneurs, policymakers, researchers, educators, and community leaders. Through its growing EARTH Futures platform, the university also partners directly with rural communities, farmer organizations, and local institutions to strengthen resilient food systems and economic opportunity across Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa.
