Monteverde Conservation League
Costa Rican nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation, preservation and rehabilitation of tropical ecosystems and their biodiversity. The MCL is the owner and steward of the Children's Eternal Rainforest (CER), Costa Rica's largest privately-owned reserve, with more than 56,000-acres. The CER spans 7 different habitat types and is home to multiple endangered species, including Central American spider monkey, jaguar, Baird's tapir, and Bare-necked Umbrellabird. The CER provides drinking water for wildlife, people, agriculture, and for the generation of a significant proportion of Costa Rica's electricity. The protected area is also the nucleus of areas with a thriving ecotourism industry and thus provides jobs for thousands of locals. The MCL is dedicated to the protection and conservation of the CER, as well as environmental education in the many local communities that surround it.
