Cascade Forest Conservancy

The Cascade Forest Conservancy is recognized as a leading organization for ecosystem protection. Originally formed in 1985 as the Gifford Pinchot Task Force (GPTF), our founders came together to participate in forest management decisions, advocate for the conservation of critical habitats and natural resources, and help protect the newly-created Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. For over 35 years, our vital combination of science and advocacy has protected mature and old growth forests from logging and development, restored critical habitat areas to create climate change-resilient ecosystems, and successfully halted a proposed open-pit gold and copper mine. We collaboratively work to increase the economic benefits of recreation and tourism in forest-dependent rural communities, and develop habitat conservation and restoration projects.  We educate thousands of people about the benefits of healthy forests and watersheds through our citizen science efforts which provide opportunities to explore and restore these iconic landscapes and training on how to collect critical scientific data.
